Aaahh, I feel victorious and useful… I finally hung anchor hooks from the ceiling so we could have some decent reading light in the living room. It only took me *mumblemumble* weeks… ^_^
and I finally went to see “Burn After Reading” on the big screen yesterday night. We really enjoyed it; this belongs to the Fargo category of Coen brothers movies, not the O Brother, Where Art Thou? or The Big Lebowski category. It’s darkly funny, cruel, bizarre, and death is a brutal, shocking (yet frequent) event, not the forgettable choreographed final swoon of most Hollywood movies.
As usual, the Coens work with some of their favourite cast of actors, bringing us wonderful performances from George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins, David Rasche, and J.K. Simmons. In fact, I thought this was the best work I’d seen from Brad Pitt.
I freely admit that the movie is not for everyone but for my part I absolutely love the deadpan humour, the absurdity, and the care and attention to detail. Oh, and as in other Coen brothers movies as well, excellent use of the soundtrack.
Yes, I was interviewed on the Geek Girls Rule! podcast this weekend, and it is now posted. We talked mostly about women’s experience with gaming, building the gamer community, and Emerald City Gamefest. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s not just a podcast but also a blog on all things that are both geeky and female. 🙂
Mickey, the Geek Girl What Rules, will be at Emerald City Gamefest on November 15, running a game (“The Keep”, using the Two-Die System) and hosting the Story Game Lounge along with .
