Caturday: Cat Pile

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This is our two current household gods, in Transformer configuration trying to form Mega-Neko.

Caturday: Claude

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This is Claude, a feral stray we didn’t have with us long enough. When we coaxed him into our house and managed to get him seen by a veterinarian, he turned out to have FeLV (feline leukemia virus). We had to keep him and his food completely segregated from our other cats (at the time, Eurekatous and Mrs. Pedecaris), but luckily the configuration of the house allowed that. He died only a few years later, but it was a joy to see him turn from feral killing machine to lap cat.

Caturday: Mrs. Pedecaris

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This is Mrs. Pedecaris, a foundling who adopted us in Quebec during our honeymoon in 1996. She had taken refuge near the dumpster outside a restaurant we ate at. We tried to find her home, or a new one, but failed, so we kept her. She was name for the character played by Candice Bergen in The Wind and the Lion because, as Sean Connery’s character the Raisuli (a Berber chief with a Scottish slur): “Mrs. Pedecaris, you a grreat deal of trrouble.”  We miss her and her habit of nesting on top of the old CRT monitor and falling on the keyboard.

Caturday: Guest-starring Kitty

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This is a recurring guest in our house, Banshee Welton a.k.a. “Kitty.” When his humans have to travel, he comes over to have his spa time. Kitty loves perching high, being petted, and trying to get into the fridge. He’s very soft and his preferred method for trying to kill us is by head-butting us in the nose.

Caturday: Benjamin Black

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

We got Benjamin from MEOW Car Rescue in Seattle.  They are wonderful people, saving all these cats that would be euthanized otherwise. Benjamin sure would not have made it; he was a special needs cat and hard to find a home for. But we hit it off and we had eight happy years with him. He was my big black cowardly lion.

Caturday: Eurekatous

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This was my beautiful Eurekatous, another stray. We found here as a kitten the day after Christmas 1995, and we had her until November 2011. She was such a wonderful cat, the epitome of cat. She was actually all black, very dark, but I drew her in greys so we could actually see her.

Caturday: Ubaid

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This is Ubaid, stretching across my desk and trying to convince me to rub his soft belly fur, no it’s not a trap, of course not. I never did get to quite finish the picture, it was dangerous work.

Caturday: Valentine

I’ve seen everyone’s babies, dogs, bunnies and selfies. Now it’s Caturday and by gum I’m going to post pictures of my cats. All day.

This is Valentine, our little stray and the only cat we’ve ever had who wasn’t black. I made this drawing working one-handed, as he was curled up against my chest.

Edit: Edmund points out that on some monitors, this image is nigh-invisible. I have no idea why, it’s very clear on my screen. But I posted another portrait of Val recently, so I’ll add it at the bottom of this post.
