8. What is a good RPG to play for sessions of 2 hours or less?
[Wherein I give up on picking a single option.]
If you’re going to plan on a 2-hour game, you had better use a streamlined system with rapid character creation. Systems that are well-suited include Fate Accelerated, The Shadow of Yesterday, PDQ, Wushu, Over The Edge, etc.
From a different angle, if you plan for a high-energy, intense game requiring the players to pour in a lot of creativity, you may want to plan for a short session. The two ideas come together in games like Urchin, shock: social science fiction, octaNe, Universalis, Microscope, Roanoke, etc.
Another reason to plan short sessions is when you game with children. Examples of games that work well for 2-hour games with kids include Faery’s Tale, The Zorcerer of Zo, Seven Leagues, Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple, Do: Fate of the Flying Temple, Young Centurions, Meddling Kids, Call of Catthulhu, etc.
